In amplifiers, electrolytic capacitors store the current so that it is immediately available in the event of pulse-induced peaks. To replenish the electrolytic capacitors, the amplifier draws current from the mains. The V5 Sirius is wired with cables made of silver-plated, pure copper strands, whose resistance is extremely low. In the insulating dielectric, IsoTek has taken care to keep the constant as low as possible - there should be no »speed limit« for the electrons here either. This may seem like homeopathy to some, but measurements show the clear advantages of such a design, according to IsoTek.

If lightning should strike in the vicinity of the house or flat during a thunderstorm, there may be short-term voltage spikes that naturally have the potential to damage all connected components. A thermo-magnetic fuse is built into the IsoTek strip for this case, which functions reliably and offers sound advantages over classic fine fuses.

Those who still believe that a power supply optimised for audio purposes has no effect on the sound quality of playback are welcome to try to confirm their prejudice with the help of this power strip, because they certainly won't succeed. Even in the »smaller« i-fidelity.net test system - consisting of the Pro-Ject Debut Pro turntable, the Magnat MA900 integrated amplifier and the Q Acoustics 5020 loudspeakers - the use of the Sirius power strip has a positive effect. The prerequisite, of course, is a carefully constructed and properly wired setup. If the listener sits in the stereo triangle and the speakers are at ear level, he will quickly notice that the high frequencies get a lot more energy without being overblown or even annoying. The acoustic grey haze disappears because the stage is now transparent and clear. To understand these differences, by the way, you don't need »golden ears«, but simply a familiar piece of music.

But it is not only these immediately perceptible changes that make the difference. The playback as a whole is also more stable and vivid with the IsoTek power bar. If you switch to alternatives or even back to a standard power supply, you immediately notice that bass drums lose definition, the geometry of the depicted stage becomes blurred and voices are reproduced more diffusely. The power of an orchestral attack also completely fizzles out without the IsoTek bar. If you are curious, you should listen to the "Olympic Fanfare And Theme" with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by John Williams. As soon as the V5 Sirius is in use, all details are contoured, even the reverberation becomes much more believable; and when the winds blare the theme, the punch is a completely different one. Of course, we know of positive sonic effects of this magnitude from other mains filters, but never before has there been this result with a three-digit price tag.
